Math 120 Lessons

Decent Essays
At first, I really didn’t have any problem using Mathematica. Everything was going well and smooth. But last two weeks online assignments gave me little hard time. The resources that I used to overcome this obstacle were watching the videos and reviewing the other assignments. Some of the lessons from math 119 have prepared me for math 120. I recommend having face to face classes rather than online, so that we can have direct contact with the professor and pay more attention.

I have read and understand the syllabus, calendar, and addendums. I understand that there are deadlines poster on the calendar that must be met and that there will be no extensions for any assignments. I do not have that many expectations for the class other than to learn statistical methods for collecting data. As for the organization of the class I am grateful to have the entire week to work on chapters instead of certain days. In my experience online classes are extremely organized and easy to use so I am hoping this course can supply us with the information easily.…

Write of what parts of the text were the most difficult to read, and to identify how many times a passage was read before some understanding was achieved. This has been actually one of my best weeks so far, week 6. The topics were linear equations and non linear equations and I was able to remember about them so this time my brain was not that disconnected as normally is with algebra which made me happy. Do not get me wrong, I still had to read multiple times some sections that caused a little confusion, but again it was not that bad and at the end everything came back to me, this time it was a lot easy for me to figure out some of the book samples, except of course the ones that had multiple fractions I am still under pressure with those.…

Entering into unit two of the Math 1201 course, I find that the concepts in the reading crystallize in my mind after an average of two to three readings. Failing to employ proper use of fundamental mathematical concepts appears to be the major bane that deters my ability to comprehend the material any faster. For example, neglecting to execute operations in the proper sequence caused me initial problems when converting from the general quadratic form to the standard form, specifically completing the square. Furthermore, my neglect resulted in personal doubt in my ability to perform the operation as I would arrive at an answer different than the solution contained within the textbook. Realizing the error in my conversions was a result in my…

Algebra 1 and Math 3 are very similar to each other in mathematic ways because they are both mostly about numbers, but there is also a couple of differences too. For Algebra 1, it is a study of how to solve equations or any math problems that has to solve for X and find the answer for X. Algebra 1 requires lots of thinking and self-calculating problems which will help you to solve equations faster without using your calculator. On the other hand, Math 3 is totally different. Math 3 is really about graphing points and finding the location of any points on the graph, which requires lots of practice; It's also about finding areas of any shapes or any angles on shapes. And also, finding quadrants on the graph , which talks a lot about x-axis and…

Standing in the middle of the hall, looking at every new face makes me feel so lost. No one was there for me to turn to or talk to. This was not what I expected when coming to Stanly Early College. At that time, I was only fourteen years old with no friends at Stanly Early College, which made me feel very out of place. It made me regret choosing Stanly Early College because at first I thought I would get to know different people, but I only ended up being alone.…

In both of these peer-reviewed articles, the authors discuss the standards for math in the common core and the problems that derived from them. In the article ‘Too Much Too Soon? Common Core Math Standards in the Early Years’ by Laura Fricke Main, she discusses standards in the common core, the promises of the standards, criticism of the standards, standards and assessment, and standards and young children. She stated that the final revision of the standards were a result of the general public, teachers, parents, business leaders, states and content area experts. She discusses criticism the standards received and how the common core is not curriculum and would show little effectiveness if implemented wrongly.…

One of the key attributes for a successful nursing career is to have adequate numeracy skills. I believe it is very important for nurses and nursing student to learn how to correctly measure drug dosages for the safe administration of medication to patients. Basic drug calculations include IV rates, measuring drug dosages, and measurement by weight etc. The research done by C. Deans (2005) on the rising medication error among Registered Nurses details the types, causes and the effects of these errors. The author also highlights the serosity of medication errors as it can “lead to devastating consequences for the patient and for the nurse’s career”…

While it has been noted before hat both online and classroom learning models have a structured approach to time, online learning, however, offers more flexibility as it pertains to scheduling. Unlike classroom learning which provides for a fixed and specific number of hours each semester, online learning is different in the sense that learners or students for that matter have the freedom to fit the course demands into their schedule, as opposed to fitting the schedule into the course demands as is evident in class-based…

As a teacher, my belief is that students be taught the importance of mathematics in the daily life. I also stand firm that students should also be taught important life lessons that relate to how to succeed and prepare for the future. I think that it is inevitable that students be taught basic curriculum in mathematics. I agree that concepts of Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics be taught but I also think that students should be taught mathematics that deals with finances earlier then the college level. Everyone I let know says I am crazy for going into Math education.…
