Materialism
Remember the 1996 movie Jerry Maguire where Tom Cruise says the famous line “Show Me the Money!” Too many people are like this today. They are consumed about money and acquiring material things more than anything else. Materialism should be avoided because it is a sin, it doesn’t make you happy, and it takes you away from a relationship with God.
What is materialism? Merriam-Webster defines materialism as a way of thinking that gives too much importance to material possessions rather than to spiritual or intellectual things. (Materialism. It is considered such because it consumes us and that is all we think about. We begin to believe that we have a lot of money, a nice house, car, job security and countless other things. Eventually with all this stuff we begin to say, I don’t need God. But a time will come when we realize we do need God. We should be praying and if we are not praying for help, then we should be offering, prayers of thanks for everything we do have because God gave it to us.
If Jesus came back today, he would view this as a major issue and frankly he would be appalled. He would reject materialism for the sake of the Kingdom. He would then assure us that he isn’t suggesting that we be destitute but warn us of the great dangers of living to…
