3.1 Matching day data For testing the two hypotheses of this research the methodology used is qualitative research. For understanding the personality traits and quantitative research for conducting statistical regression in STATA and the usage of questionnaires. The data consists of questionnaires, mathematics and microeconomics grades that were collected from the freshmen students studying the bachelor program, Economics and Business Economics at the Utrecht University, provided by the school. The questionnaires was the first source of data that were collected from the freshmen, who went to the matching day. In the Netherlands the higher level of institutions would always organize a matching day for their future students to experience the campus life and to increase the interest of their chosen major. This benefits as a prevention for students against dropping out or switching courses in their first year. Dropouts and switching courses are inefficient for both …show more content…
For high grades, it can also assume passing grades for which this research focused on passing the courses. Considering both courses have voluntary attendance motivation. Having an interest in the course is important, because without it students would not attend classes frequently, which results in lower grades. Effort requirement is assumed to be positively correlated to passing the course for which it indicates the students’ interest and motivation. The females’ performances were especially well as it did improve their grade making them pass the course compared to males. As hypothesis 1 is true and relates to hypothesis 2 it can be concluded that, if students have interests in the course they can enhance their motivation, which leads to regular attendance with results of high grades and it applies especially to females as they outperform males in every
