Waikato Rugby Union speaks up about the match fixing game allegation (this is my feature story) After the Ranfurly Shield game that occurred on October 3, 2015, there is allegation that one of the team players in WRU organization, Stephen Donald was involved in a match fixing game. The Waikato Rugby Union had a press conference on October 7, 2015 to answer the match-fixing allegation that they received from the media during the Ranfurly Sheild game. In the press conference General Manager, Blair Foote confirmed to the media that Stephen Donald has been part of match fixing game; she also explained the actual incident that happened in the game. “We would like to confirm that Stephen Donald was involved in a match fixing game deal regarding …show more content…
The opponent team will be dealing with that matter accordingly,” he said. On the other hand, Blair Foote showed a video clip that outlines the exact incident, so that the media and supporters will clearly understand the actual incident that happened. After Blair Foote interview, Stephen Donald speaks up his side of the match fixing issue that occurred during their game with the Hawkes Bay Rugby team. “I understand that I have disappointed and let down fans, the team and especially my family, I accepted the offer because of financial problems that my family has been facing. I was offered a huge amount of money, which why I took the offer. I just want to say that I feel guilty for what I done, and especially for the damaged which I made” he said. Stephen Donald showed sincerity when he apologized to his supporters, family, friends, and his teammates. It also showed that he regretted for the things that he had done. One of the reporters asked Stephen Donald about his plan in future after this incident. Donald responded that he is going to look for another job, so that he can still provide the financial needs of his family. The other reporter asked the Waikato Rugby Union about their plans in future.
General Manager, Blair Foote stated that they will be stricter in their regulations to their players, so that this incident will not happen again. They are also looking forward to hire a potential player to cover Stephen Donald position, then after two years they will review Donald’s profile to decide if they will hire him
