This is the story of Macy McNeer. The girl who aspired to be an engineer. Macy sat in class as quiet as can be thinking, “What type of inventions interests me?” She thought of different inventions and came up with a plan.…
"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…
In addition this book challenged my views on how success was achieved, It made me almost made give up on trying to be successful. I asked myself many questions such as”should I even try to be successful?” and “What even is the point if my destiny is already decided?” I then realized that this book in which Malcolm Gladwell claims to be the way to success is only half correct. Sure being born in January many give you the advantage of being a hockey player or being asian makes you good at math, but without determination you would never get anywhere.…
Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers illuminated countless aspects of society and “success” that are rarely addressed. Practice and hard work are often forgotten once the goal or feet has been achieved. Reading through this list the first time, there were 5 quotes with which I could relate; all of these quotes referred to strong work ethic and the advantages toward one’s future that follow. For this reason, I had to go through them again and really think about which one would be most applicable to me as I look for success in my own life: “Hard work is a prison sentence only if it does not have meaning. Once it does, it becomes the kind of thing that makes you grab your wife around the waist and dance a jig.”…
Gladwell and Dweck both present accurate arguments that fit together beautifully. Gladwell proposes the idea that success is merely circumstance, saying a person has little room to change how successful they are, but if that person wants more success Dweck comes in with an important claim about growth mindset. If you want to change your circumstances you must have a positive attitude and a strong work ethic which make up a growth mindset. These two seemingly opposite text actually relate more than one would…
Many successful people do not begin as a virtuoso. In fact, most do not achieve success with only their power. They receive assistance, whether it was in the form of a mundane person or remarkable program. Two recurring factors Malcolm Gladwell mentions in Outliers: The Story of Success are opportunities, and as is repeatedly implied, environment. As Gladwell continuously proves many successful people, like Bill Gates, owe their success to those same two factors.…
Those who are successful are not the ones who sit and wait for things to come to them, they are the ones who go out and get them. However, life is not always as easy as just going out and getting whatever you want with no struggle or adversity to overcome along the way. A critical part of life and becoming successful is overcoming the many obstacles and adversity that one will face on the path to greatness. Overcoming adversity is crucial; but an equally important aspect to obtaining success is having the mindset to accomplish anything. Ayn Rand, an accomplished philosopher and novelist, epitomizes said mindset with her famous quote, “The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.”…
Gladwell vs Lower Class Success: Is there a difference? Success is whatever you can make out of your current situation, whether it be good or bad. Most people gain success through talent or hard work. According to Gladwell, there is no such thing as becoming successful on your own with just talent or hard work and that there are other factors that come into play. In Michiko Kakutani’s article, “It’s True: Success Succeeds, and Advantages Can Help”, Kakutani criticises Gladwell’s usual methodology as weak and clumsy.…
Michael Jordan once said, “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” Being born to two immigrants, who have never completed college, and growing up in a low-income family of six individuals, I have faced nothing but a myriad of obstacles in my life. Although at times I have struggled to overcome these challenges, I have always persevered and pushed past each one with my determination to be the best I can be, which has matured me into the young adult I am today.…
How does one define success? People have different viewpoints on success. Some people usually think success is all about how much money you some people think success as you are being happy. In my opinion success is being able to support the ones you love, the ones who make you happy, and the ones who support you in your time of need. Many people strive to be successful however not everyone becomes successful.…
It is believed that everyone wants to be successful, but only a few receive it. According to the book, Cardone’s secret to creating extraordinary success is, “You must set targets that are 10 times what you think you want and then do 10 times what you think it will take to accomplish those targets”. Cardone explains many topics in his book, however, I for…
Rhonda McLean, Elaine Meryl Brown and Marsha Haygood carefully constructed the brilliant leadership handbook, The Little Black Book of Success, for anyone seeking leadership advice on their journey throughout the management world. “You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct and control your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be.” (Hill, 1937, p. 147). Napoleon Hill is the inspiration of this quote as he wrote in his novel “Think and Grow Rich”.…

Thereupon, I am confident that my academic background and my fierce desire will lead me on to the road of my destiny.…
The main goal of every person is to succeed, right? But true success does not come without failure. Success takes hard work, intelligence, humility, and failure leads to all three of these things. Money is to the root of all evil as failure is to the root of all true success. You must first fail in order to succeed.…
