Working as a Registered Nurse on the General Surgery unit of St Pauls’ hospital has given me a deeper understanding that our healthcare system, no matter how easily accessible and efficient, will always be room for improvement. Therefore, the primary reasons for my application to the Master of Nursing: Generalist is two fold. First, I wish to raise more awareness around the social determinants of health to improve our health care system. Second, I wish to contribute and improve new health policies and practice standards within my workplace. I realize to achieve these goals would begin from a series of small changes starting with myself. My curiosity and drive to provide quality care for my patients continuously raise concerns, that I believe, needs to be addressed. For example, is dispensing naloxone kits in the community and at the workplace truly effective in minimizing the risk of fentanyl overdose in Vancouver? What can we do to improve or increase compliance for our patients who are at risk? I want to develop the skills and knowledge of nursing from a leadership perspective to better educate the public and other health care providers to work together has …show more content…
I believe that my role as a nurse is more than just a job. To deliver quality of care for others, I take care of myself, mentally and physically. I am a yoga fanatic and lead an active lifestyle indoors and outdoors. I am detail oriented and have excellent time management skills. Acceptance into this program will allow me to pursue my personal and professional aspirations in achieving a leadership role within our healthcare system. I would like to become a clinical nurse leader, clinical nurse educator or even a patient care manager on a medical or surgical unit. I wish to gain more responsibility and to become a role model and inspiration for other nurses around
