Diversity and representation of Indians and Asians on television in general are lacking to the point where it feels that it's not even a big deal to be considered a problem. In a study done by USC they conclude that not only does Hollywood have a major problem in diversirty and representation in films but its real problem eveywhere. In tv shows and in some films they show they had less than one percent American Indian speaking characters. The Indians we do get to see in shows or movies big screen or those undertted movies shown at Sundance the movie festival .Are usually stereotypical Indian or asian men who are meant to be seen as timid, not really life threatening ,mostly used to be the funny guy with an accent and their ways. What i like about the episode is how it destroys the "there can't be two" principle. In the episode Dev, Ravi, and Ravi's friend talk about the problem of Indian stereotypes such as gas station attendants, cab drivers, owners of Indian restaurant who you really see in real …show more content…
But when have you read that whites have been enslaved or forced to isolate themselves from a colony, state or country.Every other race has been through this or something similar on some scale. They do not face discrimination while getting a job or working it,they do not face housing discrimination when they want to purchase a home. The news is always talking about about a black man getting killed by a cop at least a couple times in a we.When a woman of color isn't able to get some type of help yet she works two jobs, doesn't do drugs and meet the requirements.Yet we have white color woman whose has a bad record, no job and still manages is to get some type of help knowing they don't fit the requirements. This isn't me saying the don't experience these things like poverty or getting arrested because they do ever on the same scale as one who is colored. They have the upper hand because the system is surrounded by them not against

The television series Master of None, created by Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang, centers on a 30-year-old Indian American actor, Dev Shah, played by Aziz Ansari himself. The comedy of the show is gleaned from Dev’s experiences living in New York. Many plot lines of the show incorporate discussions of race, gender, and sexuality. For this project, we focus on the second episode of the series, “Parents.” This episode’s theme is the child-parent relationship in America, when the parents are immigrants.…

Why is it that because a woman is Black, has children, poverty-stricken, and is less educated is forced to be oppressed by both their class and gender? Why is the system setup to oppress people based off of their race and class? Why is that caucasian lady seen as superior to me only because I am an African American? White Privilege and You When was the last time you heard a joke about a white person being called a thug or an illegal immigrant? When was the last time you heard a news story about a white person who committed a crime, and wasn’t mentally ill? If you apply these situations to people of color, you’ve most likely heard about almost everyone. Welcome to a society in which white people run, in which their supremacy is unfortunately, manifested.…

As I sat in philosophy class, I listened to the discussion about “The Color of Fear” (documentary). Many people sat quiet in efforts to keep arguments and insults at bay. However, one female stated something that made my thoughts initiate. She loudly and proudly stated, “I’m a white female, as white as they come, and I do not have white privilege”. She finished her statement with a further explanation, “I had a rough life growing up and I never got everything I wanted; therefore, I’m sure I was not privileged by my race”.…

Media has not given the Indians any other roles than that of the master narrative, nor will they. If they change the culture of these Indians, the people watching will become confused, and therefore will not like the matter in which it is involved. Again, changing the views of the masses would be to change history, which is not so easily done, nor highly regarded. Due to the expectations of the people, the stereotypes of society, and the everlasting cultural context assumed by the masses to be real, Indians are stuck in this loop of how they should be.…

After some decisions made in recent court cases, society brings about the term “white privilege” quite often. Some in society say that white people may get less harsh punishments for the same criminal act than a person of color. Others in society say that their claims are untrue, leaving the question about whether white privilege is or isn’t an actuality. In the article “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Backpack” published online at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research, author Peggy McIntosh claims that white people do not acknowledge white privilege because they are taught not to notice it.…

Fifty years ago, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 abolished segregation across the United States. Although the United States has come a long way in racial equality, one question remains – does one’s race still matter? One would hope that after half a century since segregation ended, race would no longer be an issue in modern society, but this is not the case. I would like to tackle this question by saying that race still matters in one’s everyday life.…

“Main ek Hindustani hun aur main janta hun ki ek Hindustani larki ki izzat kya hoti hai” a dialogue by Raj in the movie reflects how valuable the honour of a girl is in the Indian culture. Raj is seen carrying this idea of Indianess, being an NRI, forward with him. All these scenes in the movie show the diasporic Indianess, which further suggest that diaspora is not a threat to Indian values and its culture. Indian values are shown to be deeply rooted in the diaspora which cannot be destroyed by western…
