Massey Ranch Observation Report

This was not my first time visiting Massey Ranch Elementary. I worked the after school program for the YMCA and my site was at Massey Ranch. Massey Ranch was one of my favorite schools to work for in Pearland. The school is newly built and it is on a big piece of property. When I drove through the neighborhoods some of the homes were older models, but there are some newly built homes. Which I think seeing the newer homes is great because that means the community is growing. There was also a new road being built so the community is keeping up with fixing any damaged roads. When I worked at Massey Ranch I thought the parents, teachers, and staff were friendly and welcoming. I am excited to go back to Massey Ranch to do my field experiences. I felt this image was important because it captures that the school is on its own property and also shows that there is no fence surrounding the school. I do think they keep up with yard maintenance.
This image makes me feel unsure about the security of the school. There is not a fence around the school which I think is surprising because most elementary schools have fences.

Which I think is great because I know younger children get sick more because of their immune systems are not use to most viruses. In 2015 the state accountability was met standard. Majority of the students were Caucasian but there were some other ethnicities in the school. There were also economically disadvantaged, English Language Learners, and Special education groups of students. The percentages on the STAAR tests were in the satisfactory standards. One question I would ask the principal is how the school addresses the needs of diverse students and if there are support programs available for students who are not meeting the standards. I would also ask if there is specialized instruction for students who are English Language

Fired Up on Campus Three out of every four americans support ¨laws allowing law-abiding citizens to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon¨ (¨Should Adults Have the Right to Carry a Concealed Handgun?¨). With this in mind, we should allow Licensed Concealed Carry of firearms on public universities because it improves the reliability of security guards, protects the staff, and reduces the likelihood of school shootings. In the first place, guards need to be equipped with firearms in order to protect to their fullest potential. Security policemen prefer to be armed for campus…

School shootings are a trend that unfortunately has been getting popular for more than a decade. This is causing schools to increase security and prepare for a potential war against unknown individuals. This has shown a negative effect on a significant amount of students who now see school as unsafe. Metal detectors, security cameras, and many other security safeguards have been a regular necessity for schools. Instead of using these things as a last resort effort to prevent violence there needs to be a less invasive plan in place that limits the security presence on campuses without it being overwhelming.…

Jones High School uses the zero tolerance policy when it comes to discipline, and that policy can create a lot of tension among stakeholders. My school is diverse, and that in itself is new to this school. The first problem I am facing is our district’s drug policy and the young lady that was sent to the office because of a mysterious pill that was found in her possession that supposedly is for allergies. My second challenge is our district’s policy on weapons and the young man that is in the office with a sharpened file.…

The good thing about this schools that I like is will motivate the students and tell them what exactly what to do also the teacher would help and see what every student is doing but the only thing is that the teacher do not gives any ideas to students when a students are not sure about an answer for a question. Also the teacher does not have the control of the classroom when students get noisy or get up from their desk. Some students are noisy and annoying and it’s very hard for a person to deal with so many students at the same time when they are noisy. I remember back in the days in high school some of the student were noisy and annoying or just throwing papers and it was hard for a teacher to take the control of the class. She just called the securities from the school to take them out the class.…
