With the recent rise of mass shootings in our society, the question has once again rose to the top of popular debate. Should the government ban or limit the sale of assault weapons to the American public? This topic is of particular interest to me due the ramifications that the recent mass shootings have had on my local community. As a resident of the Washington D.C Metro area, I personally knew dozens of friends and local community members who worked at the Navy Yard the day of the mass shooting. On September 16. 2013 a gunman stormed the Washington DC Navy yard, fatally shooting 12 people and injuring countless others.
