Mass Media Abandonment Of Black Americans

What is news media and how does it affect our lives in everyday aspects? The news media or news industries are those elements of the mass media that focus on delivering news to the general public or a target public. In the more recent years news is delivered to anyone who wants it on their smartphone devices. But is it possible that we, as people of America, are watching news that has a hidden bias to the supreme group of white folk? Many research institutions such as University of California at Berkeley, Sacred Heart University, University of Nevada at Reno, and The Ohio State University, have searched beyond the surface to view the news media they are used to in a new light, to write research papers on their findings which have each shown …show more content…
Nationally, black drivers are also more likely to be pulled over and less likely to receive a reason for being stopped. In one Rhode Island study, black drivers were stopped more even though they were less likely to receive a citation.” As well as being more likely to be stopped without reason by a police, the rates for blacks and people of color to be arrested with drug use and drug-related crimes is twice as high as compared to the rates of arrestment placed on white people. May these be some of the reasons why black people and minorities of color are more likely displayed as the criminals? Because we grew up and were raised where our United States Criminal Justice System is set up by white people planned to take favor on white people? Some may say that the days of racial biases are over, but I disagree. The United States has become better at covering it up with the news media we watch. However, I would not want to be misunderstood and do not get me wrong, I love white people, some of my best friends and favorite people are …show more content…
An example (Trayvon Martin in Stanford, Florida) of this is when a single news station’s headline while broadcasting a black teen’s death by a white cop was, “Trayvon suspended THREE times for 'drugs, truancy, graffiti and carrying burglary tool' and did he attack bus driver too?”, then it continued onto the article about his death. While a headline for a white person who commits a crime (Eric Bellucci of Annadale) is, “Son in Staten Island murders was brilliant, athletic -- but his demons were the death of parents.” This is just one of the examples of how news media favors white suspects and puts down black victims! These are victims of color being put down while white criminals and suspects are talked about how great they once were. News media caters to the majority of Americans (which make up 77.7% of the population), which could be seen as a good thing because it’s what the majority want to view. However when these views are exploited and twisted, the news becomes a source for racial biases. And when parents who involve their children into the news are watching this type of media, it only but helps to contribute further into the discriminatory thoughts and pushing the news to accommodate for these people who want this modified

This date is a few years back but it confirms that black are target by peoples bias. For example, if a cop stops a white person they won’t check their car, however, if a black person accidently drop of something the cops would undertake that’s it’s a weed or a gun. As reported by Bureau of Justice Statistics, in New York City drug arrest decreased in “1991 with 800 “in which “2010 enlarged by more than 59,000” captures. It is scary to think that after all this year the number doesn’t exists yet we are heading toward segregation again.…

America’s Justice System The justice system in America is not racially biased, but results from crimes committed and unequal incarceration rates. According to the article What It’s Like to Be Black in the Criminal Justice System, African Americans are more likely to have their vehicles searched, serve longer sentences and be arrested for drug use. However, no evidence is apparent from these claims and no statistics prove these statements to be true. In the article Is the Criminal Justice System Racist?, the authors give court cases, studies, and dates to prove their claims about the justice system to be found true.…

For white upper class individuals like myself, there are not tremendous opportunities to be exposed to African Americans, and if we are, it may be through selected portrayals by the media or by others with inaccurate deceptions. For these individuals, it is not necessarily their fault they are being thrown into these conditions and as a result possess a lack of understanding the lives of other individuals who may be different from them. In Weddington, there are children being raised with limited interaction with African Americans, and the interaction they are getting through adults or the media may be inaccurate in describing how African Americans truly are as people. Instead of having the next generation be one of acceptance and interaction, it has the chance of being sheltered and unaware of the struggles of other groups, making it difficult to solve any future issues to make communities stronger and more connected. In retrospect,…

Based on the evidence of the cases, it is clear that White perpetrators are more likely to be acquitted or receive lenient sentence, as seen in the Kennedy case and St. John’s case, and minority perpetrators will receive more criticism and face harsher sentences, as seen by the Big Dan’s case and Central Park Jogger case. The hysteria against ethnic groups was rampant in the cases involving minority perpetrators, and the exiguous attention when minority victims are involved shows that White patriarchal media seeks to either blame minorities, or hide the fact that White against minority crime took place. This supports notion that the press still prefers crimes against White victims while ignoring those against Blacks, and although it focuses…

There’s a remarkable and outrageous racial disparities in the criminal justice system. According the research Black lives Matter: Eliminating Racial Inequity in the Criminal Justice System by Nazgol Ghandnoosh, a recent investigation of the rates at which the Boston Police Department observed, stopped, interrogated, frisked, or searched individuals without making an arrest found that blacks comprised 63% of these police-civilian encounters between 2007 and 2010, although they made up 24% of the city’s population. Moreover, this study states; “Once arrested, people of color are also likely to be charged more harshly than whites; once charged, they are more likely to be convicted; and once convicted, they are more likely to face stiff sentences – all after accounting for relevant legal differences such as crime severity and criminal history.” A research table made by Bonczar T named Prevalence of…

When people in America took the Implicit Association Test, results showed that “almost 90 percent of white people in America...show an inherent racial bias for white people versus black people” (Goyette) which creates red flags for a country that is supposed to be prideful of its diversity. The one question that this raises is why? Why is it that white people find people of the same race to be more appealing than African Americans? This is because of stereotypes, negative myths about the other race, such as Africans being “ghetto” and “cheap” and “unclean”. Racism was not wiped out completely, Individuals just chose to keep their “racism” hidden away for the fear of being called a racist.…

An injustice I see throughout my community, or the American community in general, is racial and religious discrimination. Ever since the creation of America, there has been racism and a division among the people, and many people have tried to erase the tension entirely, but only small doses of success have been seen here and there. Yes, there is equal rights for all now, but there is a definite tension still among the American people when it comes to race and religion. People have to be politically correct and they also have to watch what they say, because a knowledge of their true feelings could harm their public image. My question is, why can’t we eradicate this division?…
