Through whole semester’s study of sociology of sexuality, I gained lot of things. First of all, this class let me realize what is sociology of sexuality. Sexuality not just focus on the “sex” but sex is one important part in the sexuality. Secondly, Sociology of Sexuality is a mix subject by sexology and sociology. There are 16 topics in the whole semester of this class, I will pick three main themes to describe, and also I will use those three themes connect with my personal experience. The three themes which are masculinity, Sex education and sexual violence.

Adolescents often have difficulties as they grow up, that affect their life. When I was in middle school, we do not have any class about sex education. All the information about men and women are from adult movie. I was think it is shame to talk some sex topics to parents and teacher, but through semester’s study I changed my mind and know the importance of sex education. Teenagers need sex education when grow up, if they did not get the right information, It may have caused a series bad effect. For instance, I received all the “sex” information from adult movie, but most sex information from that movie is wrong. For instance, people always has bigger penis in the adult movie. So according to this information, I with my friends are confused, big means good and girls more like to choose big penis to be her boyfriend. After few years, I know that is not truth. “boys with penis smaller than 2.5 centimeters maybe resigned a girl based on the assumption that a male infant needs a penis of a certain size in order to be accepter by family and peers.” (Kessler 1998; 23) Sex education is a necessarily part for teenager’s growth, if parents or teacher doesn’t teach them, then they will find another way to know …show more content…
Sexual violence includes sexual harassment, sexual assault. According to the text, “over 50 percent of women will experience sexual harassment during their career.” (Lecture 14, 6) When the sexual harassment happened, most people don’t know that is sexual harassment in China. Women just feel uncomfortable and most men doesn’t know they are violating the laws. I have seen something happened in the “Shanghai” subway station. It was 7 am, I was take subway go to school. I found a man stand behind a woman and use his private part touch woman’s buttocks. In the beginning of the man’s action, that woman didn’t find his action. But when her know something happen, she just moved around to another corner. The man’s action does not bring any harmful to himself, so he will do this again. In my opinion, this is the reason why the sexual harassment occurred often in China and in the
