It was almost as if the men on the line were holding back their initial fears of the scary clown that was walking around in goory makeup and randomly yelling at his chosen ‘victims’. The things we see and hear everyday play a huge role in our lives. The societal construct of masculinity is seen in the media everyday from commercials to music videos to movies. Commercial’s of men engaging in sporty activities, music videos of men having stacks of money covering the set, movies about men being alphas; something along those lines. Goffman’s theory of gender in his book Gender Advertisements written in 1976, brushed upon my point very well. Media has taken on a huge effect, looking at the line for the haunted house; I saw all of this come into play. People will put themselves through real, or what seems real to them, fear for the sake of the adrenaline. Looking at globalization, you can see that the mass media has guided people into completely new and different routines, dreams, and aspirations. Reading Chapter 17: Applying Anthropology in Window on Humanity, I got a different look of globalization in terms of mass media, and how it influenced people to move into cities, so urbanization and life in cities doubled and media came into play. Throughout cultures media plays its own individual effect, but what if our media contained a lot of violence and contained a lot of excitement? That would start to change our routines, aspirations and daily lives. Looking at shows like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Supernatural, Narcos, etc., you start to see a similar pattern of aggression or maybe even goriness; and all of this doesn’t even include movies, music, and the news which has its own broad
