This is the “you aren't as good as you could/should be” technique found in many ads. This ad portrays protein powder as more than just a nutrient supplement, they show it as a key to get the superior body and masculinity of the model that men supposedly need. In the passage Men’s Men and Women's Women, Steve Craig states, “Men’s men have the unchallenged freedom of a fantasized masculinity.”…

In an essay that I read titled the “ Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt” by Jean Kilbourne, she also expresses herself in her essay on how women are being treated in advertisements. However, she also specifies how ads can be misinterpreted by viewers, in this case women. In her essay she talks about a similar advertisement to the Axe shower Gel. The advertisement she informs about is the Old Spice deodorant ad. In this advertisement there is a man who is on top of a woman, the advertisement has the word “NO” in big bold font.…

This link leads to an advertisement for the new "Apple iPhone 7". Many people will and have previously watched this advert and each of them understood, therefore, judged it differently. People who use Apple products and also own many of them are likely to admire the product, where people who commonly use and own other electronic company products will not have seen it as likable as Apple customers, competitors like Apple and Samsung create similar products, however, they try to make it better than the others, so the customers mirror this competition towards each other and the products. They most likely compared the product to their preferred products and judged it with bias. I think that gender would affect the reactions towards this…

Has Media Gotten Any Better for Women? Thomas Paine is famously quoted as proclaiming that he will “offer nothing more than simple facts” in his famous work, Common Sense (Paine). I too have nothing other than facts and reason to give you about the sexist media and marketing humanity exposes itself to every day. Today’s media seemingly inundates itself with messages of feminism, from movie stars promoting t-shirts proclaiming their feminism to quotes about social equality on Pinterest boards.
