Mascara consists of mostly soap, waxes, oils, and pigments (Moore, 2003). It’s two main ingredients include carbon black, and beeswax. Carbon black’s formula name is CH4. It is produced from the incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. Beeswax, made of fatty materials, is a natural products that bees produce. Its formula name is C15H31CO2C30H61 (The Chemistry of Cosmetics, 2009). Some mascaras are soluble in water and have weak hydrogen bonds meaning they're not waterproof. There is the Anhydrous method, which means no water is included, and the Emulsion method. In the Anhydrous method all ingredients are mixed, heated, and then vigorously mixed again to draw in air (CurioCity, 2007). In the Emulsion method, water and thickeners are mixed together to make a lotion which is a strong base, while the waxes and other additives are heated separately and soon combined with pigments. The lotion and wax is then mixed together in a high speed mixer that eliminates any air from coming in. This mixing process continues until the combination reaches room temperature (CurioCity,
