As mentioned above she married Connie at a young age and the couple is expecting her first child. Rose of Sharon not only has to suffer through the crises the family goes through, she has to go through them while carrying a child. Not only that, her husband Connie leaves the family before the baby is even born. If that is not evident enough of how truly awful Rose of Sharon’s life has been, she had a stillborn due to her malnutrition and stress she experienced during the trip. However, despite all of this, she was still able to pick herself up and contribute a piece of herself to help someone in need. To clarify, while the family is stranded in a boxcar in the middle of California, they meet a dying man and his son sitting alone. Since Rose of had just given birth, her body was able to breastfeed and without a baby to do so, the milk has to go somewhere. As a result, she willing begins to feed the dying man.
