Mary queen of Scots was born on December 8, 1542 in Linlithgow, UK and is the daughter of James V and Mary of Guise. Before she was even born she had 2 other brothers, but both of them unfortunately died as infants. This left her the only living child, meaning the only heir to the throne of Scotland. To add on to these horrific events, a week after she was born her father had died. From this downfall, the English invaded part of their country and in order for their country to be strong once again they decided to create an alliance with France. When Mary was only 6 years old, the Scottish court arranged a marriage with Francis II, who is later known as king Francis II. From that incident she decided to go back home to Scotland where from her absence, protestants had gained quite a bit of power, by turning the country Protestant to Catholic. After 5 years, her second marriage was to her cousin, Henry Stewart, earl of Darnley in 1565 and this created a lot of commotion especially with Elizabeth I, her cousin. With him, she was pregnant with the future king of Scotland and England. A few months later of more chaotic events, she decided to no longer be married to him and this lead onto to Henry mysteriously being killed in an explosion. Then 3 months later, she married the suspect of her second husband's murder, James Hepburn, earl of Bothwell. This heinous get together made the Scottish nobility go against Mary. James was sent to exile and Mary was held prisoner in Lochleven Castle. In 1568 though, she escaped and fled to England for Queen Elizabeth I’s help. Rather that helping her, Elizabeth kept Mary captive in her castle for 18 years. From this Mary planned her assassination, but her plan was uncovered making her guilty for treason and the punishment was death. She was executed at age 44 in 1587 at Fotheringhay Castle and buried at Peterborough
