This is because people believe that God had assigned strength and authority to males, underlining that womankind are weak and frail in character. Besides, the emergence of the feminist who claims to stand for women’s empowerment and gender equality clearly denoted that women are weaker creatures. Since majority women are physically weaker than men, some of them have high level of emotional intelligence in reducing the risk of being hurt or abused by men. In the story “Lamb to the Slaughter”, when Mary Maloney’s husband want to divorce her, her first instinct is not to believe any of it, rejecting it all, and act as though she hadn’t been listened. After a while, she still manages to make some suppers for her husband. Whereas, in “The Way Up to Heaven”, when Mr Foster inform Mrs Foster that she should drop him off at the club, in comprehending her husband is a dominant character, although Mrs Foster knows that the club is downtown, the opposite way to the airport, she still agrees to drop her husband at the club to minimize controversy.
