Mary Kay Ash was born May 12 1918, She became an entrepreneur after she left the traditional workplace. Due to watching a man whom she trained get promoted over her. This constant mistreatment motivated her to launch her own cosmetic company. Ash became a role model for women in business. In the matter of years she was able to build a cosmetic empire.
With an initial investment of $5,000 in 1963, she was able to purchase formulas for skin lotions. With her child, she opened a small storefront in Dallas having about 9 employees. In just one short year her company was able to turn a profit and sold almost $1 million in products by the end of the second year. Ash used incentive programs and other strategies to give her employees the opportunity to benefit from their own achievements. She created a new business structure new from any other person of her time. The basic idea was the cosmetics were sold through at home parties and other events. Ash really valued all of her employees giving top earning consultants Cadillacs. She once even said “ People are a company's greatest asset”, she always strived to create a company that every employee would be happy to work for. Her motto was “treat others as you want to be treated” and “ God first, family second and career third.”. It’s clear that Mary Kay Ash truly had a heart of gold and a desire to make a mark in a primarily male dominated industry. Her overall business approach attracted a lot of interest.
