During language arts, Mary was seating in the back of the classroom. Mary followed the teacher’s directives and participated in the classroom. Mary often raised her hand to answer questions asked by the teacher. When Mary got a question wrong, the teacher said “no that’s not it” and picked on another student. After Mary got a questions wrong, she stopped raising her hand to participate in class. When the collaborative teacher came up to Mary to help her with work, Mary became very defensive and argumentative. The teacher walked away from Mary and ignored her remarks. When Emily answered a question wrong, the teacher told her it was wrong, but he said it was a very good try and explained further before calling on another student. He praised student for trying when they got a question wrong. At one point, Mary asked the collaborative teacher for a pass, so she can get her planner from the locker. The teacher gave her a pass. Mary returned in a couple minutes with her planner, and continued to do her work. When paired with another student, it appeared that Mary just copied the answers from her partner’s paper rather than discuss the answers together.
