Mary Jackson was a black mathematician and aerospace engineer at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.
Mary Jackson was born on April 9, 1921 and died on February 11, 2005. She was very committed to science and wanted to be an engineer. She loved helping people around her. She started her career as a teacher at Hampton’s King Street Community Center. "Sometimes they are not aware of the number of black scientists, and don't even know of the career opportunities until it is too late," (Mary Jackson) After two years in the computing pool of Nasa, Mary Jackson got an offer to work for engineer Kazimierz Czarnecki in the Supersonic Pressure Tunnel, a 60,000 horsepower wind tunnel capable of blasting models with winds
