Mary Harris was born on approximately May, 1, 1837 to the parents of Richard and Ellen Harris. Mary Harris nickname “Mother Jones” was given to her for her kindness and careness by inspired workers. Mary Harris was a union activist, an active campaigner for the United Mine Workers Union, and a political progressive. In 1898, Mary Harris was the founder of the Social Democratic Party. Harris early life left many personal tragedies , soon she decided to begin her work as a labor activism and leaving her name with legacy.

Mary Harris was born in the city of Cork, Ireland and baptized on August 1, 1837. Irish families were victimized of the Great Famine which drove a lot of families to emigrate to North America including Mary’s family. Years
