Mary Elizabeth Williams's So What If Abortion Ends Life

When a woman becomes cognizant of their pregnancy, there are two choices available to her; keeping the fetus or aborting the fetus. I think the latter option is absurd. Why hurt yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally to get rid of a life inside of you? It makes no sense. Also, have you seen an abortion performed? It’s amazingly gruesome. Let me tell you why you should leave the Dark Side and join the pro-life forces.

As we all know, abortion is the termination and removal of a fetus from a woman who is pregnant. This deplorable act is performed every day by physicians. A study conducted by BMC Women’s Health journal shows that 40 percent of woman who have an abortion label their reason as a financial issue (Bruenig). Some of these

She also says “support for abortion rights is at an all-time high, with seven in 10 Americans in favor of letting Roe v. Wade stand … a stunning 10 percent increase from just a decade ago.” Williams finalizes by writing that the way us anti-choice people constantly utilize the word “life” make pro-choice people like her squirm. This article was interesting to me as the points made were insufficient. Therefore, I’ve decided that I’m going to answer her question “So What If Abortion Ends …show more content…
Authors Robert George and Patrick Lee elaborate their reasons for why they consider abortion to be wrong.
When an abortion procedure is performed, the physician, as can be evidently seen from the gruesome scene described above, is literally killing a human. Yes, the fetus is a human. George and Lee writes that “as early as eight or ten weeks of gestation, the fetus has a fully formed, beating heart, a complete brain, …, a recognizably human form, and the fetus feels pain, cries, and even sucks his or her thumb” (14). Do we humans not have/do these things? Last time I checked, we do.

Now some people may say that you are not killing a human being as it is not out of the womb yet or it is technically part of the mother so the mother has the right to let the baby stay or go (what George and Lee call “the bodily rights argument” (20)) or whatever other excuses they can conjure up. Here’s how I see it: the true purpose of sexual intercourse is for reproduction; pleasure just happens to be an amazing condition attached alongside. Abortion is seen as a way out for women who became pregnant. No, I’m not saying that being pro-life is to not have sex (which actually leads to my next point); it’s to have sex

Why should a baby not have the chance to live simply because of the poor choices of its mother? Abortion is not a good thing and should not be tolerated. Taking the life of an innocent human being should never be accepted like it is. In the article, “This Is What Abortion Looks Like,” the author's main point is how abortion is a topic that not many people talk about and think is bad but, Wendy Davis, a Texas senator talked about it in public.…

“Surgeons entering the womb to perform corrective procedures on tiny unborn babies have seen those babies flinch, jerk and recoil from sharp objects and incisions” (Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life). An abortion procedure involves an abortionist reaching into the mother’s womb with a clamp and pulling out parts of the child with force. This procedure violently tears a preborn child apart, limb from torso, until the child bleeds to death in utero. After the arms and legs are torn off, the abortionist then continues to the brain where he/she takes the clamp and crushes down on the head until they see pure white gelatinous material issue from the cervix. Abortion for another reason is completely immoral to me. I substantiate that life began in conception, without conception no person in the world would be born. The fetus stage is scientifically and natural part of an evolution of the human life cycle. Abortion is to terminate a human being in any stage of life, then abortion, ending a life of the fetus, is absolutely wrong. Killing is murder and murder are ethical absolutes.…

It’s a hard choice, and that’s why I’m pro-choice, because I want people to make their own choices” (Clinton). These days, the word “abortion” stirs up so much controversy. It seems like everyone knows exactly where they stand in the matter: they’re either strongly pro-choice, or strongly pro-life. Whether they are influenced by religion, personal matters, or family morals, many struggle to see that there are two sides to abortion. In order to understand where proponents of pro-choice are coming from, people need to see that abortion isn’t just terminating the life of an unwanted, unborn baby.…

However, Planned Parenthood has overextended its hand to millions of desperate women. Knowing that they can easily get free birth control and abortions, women have lost the sense of gravity and morality that life should be treated with. To lessen the number of abortions carried out annually—a daunting 50 million—women must face reality, they are condoning the killing of their baby, not an "it. " People can't “abort children,”—they can either keep them alive or kill them. A person should not be disposable.…

Disregarding the mother’s perspective can be compared to getting an arm amputated and declaring the action is immoral from the arms point of view. Abortion differs in each case and no situation is the same, to equate a case to another is immoral and unfair to the parties involved. Marquis writes “Since we do believe that it is wrong to kill defenseless little babies, it is important that a theory of the wrongness of killing easily account for this” although he is using emotional blackmail, it does not stray me from pointing out that embryos are not babies and due to the account of miscarriages and health issues it is not determined they will have a future. Pregnancy is a dangerous time for the mother and fetus and most miscarriages happen between 7 and 12 weeks. Killing is the worst of crimes except in the cases of self-defense.…

It has been debated that it makes women feel like they have a choice in the matter but throughout the years this has left the father of the child without choice, and left the baby without a choice. killing babies and taking them from their fathers without a choice is wrong in my eyes and i also believe this to be murder and should be treated as such because for one you're still killing a person just that person doesn't have a voice of its own to speak up with. These children you're killing just because you don't want to take responsibility for not keeping your legs closed is almost childlike and very upsetting to those of us who think all people should have a chance to live life the only time that this inhuman service should be allowed is to rape victims because just like the child has no choice neither did she and just like i believe the baby should have a choice i think rape victims should to since they were forced to conceive a child but if you weren't forced to have intercourse then you shouldn't be allowed this choice you should be forced to take care of the child, but i do believe that women should have the choice at the age of being able to conceive whether or not they want their tubes tied if they decide not to and get pregnant then they should be forced to take responsibility for their actions and not allowed thee option of an abortion. Honestly in my own opinion i feel that abortions are just a way for a women to be able to have more than just the interactions she had leading up to the pregnancy and by aborting their child and their responsibilities they are able to do it even more times without anything stopping them….…

Abortion is a touchy issue. Many say it is okay, others are totally against it, and some think it’s acceptable, depending of the circumstances. In my opinion, it’s wrong and not at all necessary, unless in the case of pregnancy, the mother is informed she will perish during the pregnancy term. Science continues to say a fetus is only a small “lump of tissue” but it isn’t, it’s human, it is a life. We are taught, “You shall not murder,” yet there are about 100, 000 lives aborted yearly.…

There has been a long existing debate of “Pro-Life” versus “Pro-Choice” about whether or not women should be able to abort a child. Many people being Pro-Choice will use the argument that the fetus isn 't a living person, and rather that it is the woman’s body; therefore the woman’s choice. There are other options women have such as adoption: waiting until the baby is born and providing the child a well-suited family to properly care for them. I believe any way you can avoid aborting a child is better than abortion because you give the child a chance for life. An unborn child in the womb contains all of the characteristics for it to be considered living, proving abortion is morally and scientifically wrong.…

Abortion is wrong, but no one should be judged for the actions and/or decisions they make. Every human being that breathes, walks, and thinks, can decide what to do with their body. In this paper I agree with Don Marquis’s view of abortion. Abortion is wrong because it deprives the fetus from its future. In other words, abortion is wrong because killing a future child stops it from growing and making a difference to their lives.…

Abortion is the act of purposely killing a human fetus. This action is legal in the United States of America due to the differing opinions regarding it. In this essay, I will discuss whether, or not abortion is morally permissible. If Abortion is in fact morally permissible, is it permissible in all or just some situations? I will argue that abortion is only morally correct in cases of a fetus having a severe genetic disorder and when the mother’s life is in danger.…
