“She sells sea shells down by the sea shore”, is a famous nursery rhyme well known by society today. This tongue twister is about the fossil collector Mary Anning. Mary became well known for the discovery of new species of fossil and contributions to the field of planetology . Anning would sell her fossils down by the sea shore to collectors and scientists, as way to make a living . She was not fully recognized during her lifetime for her work because of her low social class and gender. Anning played a role in further understanding natural science (geology) and popularized fossils and their value to science. She was an important figure in geology that had a large impact. She was only one of two children to survive infancy, along with her brother Joseph . Mary was named initially named after her elder sister Mary, who perished in a house fire at the age of four . At the age of 14 months, Mary had already achieved local infamy by surviving death.
