Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3

Improved Essays
Phase Three of the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is drawing to a close with three films scheduled for this year, three for 2018 (one of which is the highly anticipated Avengers: Infinity War part 1), and two in 2019. At this stage, there is only one movie scheduled after Phase Three, a supposed Spiderman sequel scheduled in 2019. With the end of the arguably largest phase of the MCU near, a lot of the major actors such as Chris Evans (Captain America) have been rumoured to be leaving behind their famous roles. This leaves space wide open for some of the other beloved Marvel heroes to get a moment to shine on the silver screen. An obvious choice for this is the Young Avengers.

Many fans of comic book movies have expressed wanting more diverse superheroes, as opposed to the vast majority being straight, white males. Within the Young Avengers, they have had multiple black characters, a Latina character, multiple gay characters, a bisexual character, a genderfluid character, and characters who have mentioned they would be open to relationships with those of the same-sex (something that’s good to point out is that none of these characters are blatant stereotypes either, even if that’s how they originally appeared in previous comics). They are arguably one of the most diverse teams in comic books, which has been commented on within the …show more content…
Many of their best heroes, such as the X-Men and Fantastic Four, are owned by 20th Century Fox, as well as Universal and Sony owning a few others. The Skrulls, an alien race, is apparently co-owned by both Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox, which causes complications in the origin of Teddy Altman (AKA Hulkling); Teddy is half-Skrull, as well as half-Kree. Introducing the Kree side of him would be simple as they have been introduced in both the 2014 film Guardian’s of the Galaxy and the popular television series Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D, which are both parts of the MCU. But it’s unknown exactly which Skrull’s Marvel Studios owns, and whether or not they would have to change Teddy’s

Superhero Comic Books Berlatsky’s article, “The Female Thor and the Female Comic-Book Reader” (2014), argues that girls are interested in reading superhero comics as much as boys; there has been a lot of speculation whether comic books were created to entertain only the masculine audience. In order to stop the sexism that has been going around in the superhero comic book industry, Berlatsky uses the logos Aristotelian appeal to inform the comic book audience that girls have been a fan of comics since decades ago. He also managed in using the hyperbole and aphorism rhetorical strategies to show that boys see girls differently and don’t belong in this industry. As a matter of fact, Berlatsky uses aphorism in one of the first paragraphs.…

Marvel's Mistake: Antman There are a lot of quotes and sayings about how one cannot learn without making mistakes. For example, from a recruitment perspective being inclusive could provide access to a wider pool of candidates, new talent, skills and lead to confident and happier staff.” Not only does having representation create positive effects in television or movies, but business as well. Another positive effect of diversity in the media is that for example, if a child sees a movie Disney’s Moana, about a young Polynesian princess from the island of Motunui and travel’s the vast ocean on a journey by herself to save her island from immense doom. This is the type of movie where there is a woman of color, being a heroine and not a damsel in distress; this creates a positive message for children of color because they finally a heroine that possibly looks like themselves. Thus this could be inspiring for them to feel more comfortable in their own skin and want to be a hero like Moana as they grow up; that boost…

This has lead directors with more capital in Hollywood (such as Edgar Wright) to split with the production house. When asked if he was worried about the potential problems between Coogler and Marvel, Simien showed no worries, saying “I believe Ryan is going to forge a path that is different than other black filmmakers before him. 'Cause he 's not Spike, he 's a different guy’” (Bernardin, 2016). While Simien’s hope in Coogler is powerful, it is not a stretch to apply the same comment to…

Diversity in America has been rising every year. Lately the country’s diverseness has skyrocketed since the legalization of gay marriage. The media is meant to represent the diversity of the country and represent the common people and the number of gay and colored people has shot up immensely within the last 20 years but the media has failed to keep up with this. Most people, white, straight and usually male, feel that the media represents them perfectly and it does. But for the people that are colored, transgender, gay or sometimes female feel that the media does not have enough representation for them and they feel as though the country does not acknowledge the fact that they exist.…

In Deadpool (2016), Ryan Reynolds plays a character called Wade Wilson, also known as the superhero Deadpool. The film follows the life of Deadpool and the many adversities he faces, such as finding out he has cancer, having to leave his girlfriend, and going through an extremely painful treatment. It also shows the entertaining parts of his life where he is a hit man, and his many drunken experiences. This superhero challenges the traditional hero narrative because although he helps many people throughout the film, he does not conform to the ideal of a hero. These differences between a usual superhero film and Deadpool make for an interesting twist in the cliché superhero story that viewers are so used to seeing because he doesn’t want fame…

There is a lack of adequate diverse representation in the media (logos). The media does not portray people of color in the media enough—and when minorities are cast or depicted in films, commercials, and other forms of media, they are limited to an overplayed and annoying (and boring) stereotype or filler trope (ethos). Although Hollywood films and other media industries may recognize that there is not enough diversity in their films, there are still little to no changes being made. Roles written for minorities almost always go to white actors (and God forbid that be reversed) and stereotypes are still being enforced. It is the 21st century: Google is free, and so is communicating with people of different cultures.…

“The Pro-Social Mission” If you think about what a superhero means to you, many answers may fly around like bravery, strength, or power. Very rarely do you ever hear about what exactly makes a superhero, super. In my opinion, I believe it is this pro-social mission that keeps them going on the never ending battle against the fight with evil. A hero can have as many powers or identities that they want to have, but the most important component of their being is that they have a specific goal in mind that will work for the greater good of not only the world, but the entire universe. These other two qualities, power and identity just reinforce who the superhero is.…

    Essay On Marvel Fandom

Before the semester started, I assumed everyone communicated with each other using the same language, or even body movements, but as time progressed with our fandom assignments, I realized the community that shares the same fandom can say terms or phrases and they will understand each other. For example, when I hear the quote “With great power comes great responsibility.” For most that share the Marvel fandom, the majority will be able to reply back where that quote came from, which is the “Amazing Spiderman.” Before the remake. When the course first started, my research involved the search engine “Google” but with low results of what I was searching for, however I did learn how Marvel first started as well as their comeback when they almost…
