When he was a lawyer, he took cases for rich and poor people. His incredible skills helped him rise with fame. Numerous times, Van Buren’s cases went to the Supreme Court in Albany. He met many politicians/government leaders and built many business relationships then became friends with them. Martin Van Buren helped many of his friends achieve their goal of having political positions. He soon began to grow out of the lawyer phase and wanted to become a politician. His wife died of tuberculosis before he started his political career. He ran for the New York Senate, which was a real competition, and became senator in 1821. Before he met with the Senate, he attended a convention in New York, he tried to convince the convention to extend the right of voting. His rivals believed he was only trying to reach out to people to get more votes. Van Buren moved to Washington and continued his political career. Martin Van Buren was successful enough that he got pushed into the presidential election of 1824. He lost and John Quincy Adams won the election with Andrew Jackson being the runner-up. Jackson’s supporters began campaigning for the election of 1828. Van Buren was in awe with Jackson’s strategies. He helped him so much with his campaign that it made the most important leader.
