For those who hear of Martin Shkreli and read his story, the first thing that comes to mind might be a man with ruthless ambition or maybe a young man trying to escalate the ladder of success. Despite his arrogance and self-fishness, Martin Shkreli comes from a humble background. Shkreli was born on April 1, 1983 and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He is the son of immigrant parents from Albania and Croatia. His family came to the U.S. in search for better opportunities. As they lived in New York, Shkreli’s mother and father worked as janitors and due to them not having any kind of education. Martin has three siblings; two sisters and a brother. As a kid, Martin enjoyed playing electric guitar and chess (Barrett, 2014). According to Goldman (2015), Martin would play chess with an older man by the name of Marty who taught Martin a lot about biotech stocks. There is an observation that Martin’s friend, Marty, might have been the key source that opened Martin’s young mind to the teachings of world trading and investments. …show more content…
At the age of 15, Shkreli continued with his success and eventually purchased shares of Amazon. Little by little one may see what framed Martin’s entire mindset of ambitions and shark like attitude. Many people have so many different perceptions on Martin Shkreli based on off initial upbringing and success. In Danya Glabau’s (2016) article, “Why Does Everyone Hate Matin Shkreli”, they refer to him as the investor boy-wunderkind turned-pharmaceutical. While others refer to him as “most hated man in America” (Thomas, 2015). The fact is that Martin Shkreli is a bright young American man that has made some poor choices that not too many people would agree with.
