In my opinion,
In my opinion,
MLK uses the emotions and wills of the audience to rally his cause by people’s sense of righteousness with an uplifting and unifying tone. These aspects are especially present in his usage of antithesis and pathos. On page 6, on it’s 21st and 22nd lines, MLK says that “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. This line of antithesis is used as a means of rallying people.…
In Glenn Loury’s speech, “Is He One of Us? Reflections on Identity and Authenticity” (pp. 489-493), he delivers the 245th Opening Convocation to the students of Brown University. Loury addresses diversity, what role it plays, and the advantages it can bring to people’s lives. His supporting statements are puzzling and his justification falls short of being a well thought-out speech, as one might expect at an Opening Convocation. As his speech progresses, his direction becomes unclear with each new point he brings up.…
From MLK’s speech, one could say there was a strict message of equality. He wished for equality for all colored people across America. This was displayed through his use of ethos, pathos, and logos throughout his speech. Despite the faults in the character of his personal life, many took the use of these literary tools as promises and hope for a better future set about by the language King chose. He states “There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until all of color are set equal.”…
Hello, my name Bailee Labanowski. Thank you for taking the time to look around my website. I am sure you might be wondering, who is Bailee Labanowski? What does she do? Well thats what is post is all about.…
Prince Jones was Ta-Nehisi Coates’ good friend from Howard University who was violently killed by an undercover police officer that confused him for someone he was supposed to be tailing and then proceeded to lie to cover it up. Jones’ came from a good family that had not always had money because his mother came from a family of sharecroppers and worked hard through a life of poverty to become a prominent radiologist. This section about Prince really struck a cord because of the continual assertion that cops who are meant to protect us are the ones causing the most harm. How it only takes one racist act which is a continual reality in the world we currently live where every day means we are going to be faced with a video of a cop killing someone and how there is no way a body can actually be safe. Coates’ saw himself in Prince and how this instance from fifteen years ago was one of the instances that stands…
Today I will be sharing with you my thoughts on the famous MLK Jr. quote “ I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” I will also be telling you how this quote has changed the way we look at race so much in the past century. This dream that MLK Jr. had was so idealistic and revolutionary that it helped change the way that many people look at race in the world today. He helped sway the minds of millions to act and get rid of racism in America with simple but meaningful words to guide them on this amazing journey to freedom.…
Elie Wiesel and Malala Yousafzai have received the Nobel Peace Prize for their humanitarian work. Elie Wiesel was a Holocaust survivor, and the writer of Night. Malala Yousafzai is commonly known for being shot by the Taliban as a young girl, but her mission is to give access to education to the millions of kids around the world who do not have the chance. Their acceptance speeches highlight the essence of their work. Their Nobel Lectures both contain rhetorical appeals; heavy usage of ethos and pathos appear in their work.…
Warsaw Ghetto Uprising ALIBASET When we wake up in the morning with the alarm of our phone and read the newspaper or watch the news, we are confronted with the same terrible news everyday: crime, poverty, rape, war, death and disasters. I myself cannot remember a single day without a news report of something bad happening somewhere in the world. Imagine all these issues and times it by 10,000, all of this, was going to be confronted by the Jewish people of Europe, when the Nazi party took power in Germany and Adolf Hitler became the chancellor or in other words the Prime minister of Germany in 1933. Good Morning teacher and fellow classmates, today I’ll be discussing and explaining Resistance in the Ghettos and one significant event during the Holocaust. Organized armed resistance was most harmful to the Nazi Party in the German controlled…
In an appearance Thursday on CNN's "New Day" to discuss health care and President Trump, controversy arose when I said this: "When I was a kid, President Kennedy did not want to introduce the civil rights bill because he said it wasn't popular, he didn't have the votes for it, et cetera. Dr. King kept putting people in the streets in harm's way to put the pressure on so that the bill would be introduced. That's what finally worked." I was doing the appearance via Skype, which doesn't allow me to see the faces of those I am speaking with. But suffice to say, both host Alisyn Camerota and fellow guest Symone Sanders were astonished.…
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said that “Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” In Cesar Chavez’s speech, he had the daunting task of simultaneously writing a eulogy in remembrance and love of Dr. King’s immensely influential life, and the job of delivering their shared message of promoting nonviolent action to oppose discrimination. Both Dr. King and Chavez had spent their lives fighting racial inequality, and both brought about major changes for Americans (and the world) due to their efforts. Throughout Chavez’s thought provoking speech, he attempts to persuade Americans that nonviolence is the only real way to solve our problems, through emotional and powerful language. Chavez is able to accomplish this through the repeated use of assertions, a specific point of view and his diction.…
This world is full of people who have broken a law, little or small. Some are accounted for and some aren't. When Trayvon Martin was killed for instance, there were many rules broken by George Zimmerman & he walked free with murder. When people started to protest and express their feelings it didn't change a thing because he still got away with murder. In my honest personal opinion our voices can matter to us but to the higher ups it doesn't matter.…
Martin Luther King Jr’s. generally known speech “I Have a Dream” is powerfully declared that the fact is that it doesn’t matter what color you are. It just matters what is deep down in your heart. At the time African-Americans were being humiliated, hurt, and even slaughtered for being brown skinned, while others roamed the streets thinking they were better than everybody. Nobody wants to be criticized for being a certain color because colors are what make the world so bright.…
Martin Luther King Jr. How much do you know about Martin Luther King Jr.? I am one of the most famous people who fought for equal rights. I had a large impact on segregation. I am now one of the many icons of civil rights.…
President Obama recently announced in a speech at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, Tennessee, “Community college should be as free and universal in America as high school is today”. Community college in Tennessee is currently tuition free and saves students $3,800 in annual tuition costs as mentioned in the PBS. In the first year that Tennessee offered the tuition free college 57,000 high school seniors signed up for the programs that include counseling and mentors (PBS). Obama’s tuition free community college plan would increase the amount of students that currently attend college. There would be requirements in place to have your tuition waived; you would have have a minimum of 2.5 GPA and would have to be at least a half-time…
