Martin Luther King's Unconventional Time

Improved Essays
History unlocks the doors to the past and holds the key for the future. History has always intrigue my state of mind. It leads me to ponder the question “What if I lived in this era?” I have always imagined living in an unconventional time due to the fact, of living through a historical moment. I would have enjoyed viewing Martin Luther King, I Have a Dream speech or living through the Gold Rush; but above all notions I would of truly enjoyed living in Los Angles in the early 1900’s. I say this due to the fact that I grew up in his city. I first started learning about Los Angles history my junior year in high school and I instantly fell head over heels for it. I found it fascinating that a city holds numerous hidden gems, historic sites, and

    4) Martin Luther King explained the term of his action called “Civil disobedience”. And it is nothing new. As reference the Bible, he gives the example of the refusal of some Jews to listen the law of Nebuchadnezzar which was unconfirmed to the religious and ethical law. In the same way that some Christians refused to listen to the unjust law to the Roman empire. This civil disobedience leads to the creation of academy freedom a degree due to the civil disobedience of Socrates.…

Martin Luther King, Jr. lived in a time where racial prejudices were everywhere. They could be seen on the water fountains, in the schools, and even in salary disparities between white and black men. Today, the prejudices are still everywhere. The only difference is that we don’t see them every day, so we pretend they don’t exist. Still, men and women of color are still shot in the streets by policemen every day, at a hugely disproportional rate, and economic disparities are ignored by white policymakers.…

Although I have read and analyzed this letter previously in my studies many years ago, reading this letter at this time in my life was far more profound this time around. It gave me the feeling that I was reading it for the very first time. I was completely moved emotionally but extremely impressed by the factual and biblical examples that encompassed the entire letter. I knew that Dr. King was a highly passionate and intelligent man, but the factual component of the letter appealed to my reasoning and logic. I believe in quality for all based on my emotions, but what I have learned most recently in an Ethics class is that emotion alone is not a sufficient basis for deciding what we should or should not do.…

“Funny when you’re dead how people start listening” (The Band Perry). On September 15th, 1963, at 10:22 in the morning, America would not be the same again, as sticks of dynamite planted by the Ku Klux Klan, in the 16th Street Baptist Church, blew up four little black girls. What was supposed to be the debut as ushers in the church for Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley turned out to be the last day of their lives. Their story started out like any other day, specifically a warm Sunday morning, in which each of the girls walked briskly and cheerfully along the sidewalk to church. Upon arriving, the girls, wearing thick white dresses, perfectly sewn together by their mamas, engaged in brief conversation, and…

I would consider Martin Luther King to have questioning and observation skills based on innovations identified by Dyer, Gregersen and Christensen. With questioning, it is an innovator that asks questions that will create new connections, directions and possibilities. Martin Luther king Jr. wanted to find ways of creating a difference. Martin Luther King Jr. also discussed the situations with people, he studied his mentors and he listened to his followers so that he can come up with ideas to create a better possibility. During that time, there were a great deal of things that Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to change.…

Listening to this informational sermon, I believe that Jesus called the man a fool because all he wanted to do was focus in each material thing whether centering himself in his spiritual gifts given to him by the Lord. All the man could focus on was putting himself before others and Jesus. The fooled man was always concerned with what others might think of him because he put everything above himself rather than focusing on his spiritual giving’s from God. In the sermon, Dr. Martin Luther King states from Luke 12:10, “And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.” I believe that Dr. King is explaining a rich and greedy man, not wanting God to come…

In response the racial segregation that occurred in the 1960’s, Martin Luther King argues that we should first fix the problem of discrimination in our country, before we fight for freedom in another country, in Beyond Vietnam-A Time to Break Silence. Through his speech, he is effectively able to further develop his argument by using anecdotes, pathos, and figurative language. Through anecdotal evidence, MLK is able to make his audience feel like he working with them, not against him. "For it grows out of my experience in the ghettos of the North over the last three years........ as I have walked among the desperate, rejected, and angry young men, I have told them that Molotov cocktails and rifles would not solve their problem”(Paragraph…

What is extraordinary? The quote stating “We live in an era of language inflation,” is quite true. We throw out the terms “great”, “outstanding”, “astonishing”, etc. to describe others too often. Our most influential leaders are often seen as strong individuals that can surpass any tribulation. Our very own Martin Luther King was seen as a heroic man who was strong enough for an entire nation. Everything that made King a leader and an influential being is through his sense of community and respect for one another.…

A distinct quote that caught my eye was from chapter 53; and it said “Being alive, you are more powerful than a thousand dead kings.” I like this quote and the entire chapter that surrounds it because it means that are words are powerful. Chapter 53 also talks about how Martin Luther King told his audience he addressed in one of his speeches that he was not afraid of death. Martin Luther King was a memorable advocate for black rights and a memorable figure throughout history. Martin Luther King’s words were obviously very powerful because he was constantly receiving death threats and many other forms of abuse, in addition he was eventually assassinated.…
