In Cairo:My City, Our Revolution the author Ahdaf Soueif describe people coming together to overthrow the regime which had taken the freedom of the Egyptians. They stood together reclaiming their country back. In the story she said “For twenty years I have shied away from writing about Cairo. It hurt too much but the city was there, close to me looking over my shoulder, holding up the prism through which I understood the world, inserting herself into everything I wrote. It hurt. And now, miraculously it doesn't, Because my city is mine again.” Soueif experience many emotions, but she saw her people together to overthrow the regime which made her proud and freedom filled the wound in her soul of her country being restored. In the text it is showed people coming together to overthrow the opposing side that opposes freedom. In history there are many revolutions and uprisings that had taken place just because of freedom; WWII and the Civil wars are only some examples of two of the opposing side demanding freedom. The Civil war the Union fought the Confederates for the abolishment of slavery and WWII when Hitler intervene the Allied powers fought against the Axis powers for the freedom of jews. In the story The Censors Juan was working his way up to get a letter that could eventually lead to someone’s death. He worked his way up by being a marvelous worker and employee, but when working himself all the way up he eventually lost sight of his task because there was barely freedom at the Censors headquarters and he was so caught up in his work. He censored his own letter without regret and died the next morning and becoming another victim of his devotion to work. Juan could not trust anyone in his task and he could not even trust himself. Nothing is going to get done if there is no struggle. With Reading Lolita in Tehran woman named Sanaz is herself at home but she is to be unnoticed almost as if she was invisible. The author Azar Nafisi is raged because Sanaz does not know her true power which also applies to all women. Nafisi wants her to demand freedom. In lines 54-55 she says “Does she realize how dangerous she can be when her every stray gesture is a disturbance to public safety” Sanaz is not struggling nor do anything about it. The quote stated by Frederick douglas says “If there is no struggle, there is no progress” So there is no progress of the woman in society to become noticed, important, loved but the people because they are not doing anything.
