Education plays a vital role in our society. Without it, the success and development of many countries would be nonexistent. Due to education, people can understand the difference between right and wrong, and they are able to create equal standards of many things, such as living, throughout the nation. This theory, however, is why Frederick Douglass was unable to openly and easily obtain the education that should should have been available from the very start. The racist society that he was forced to live in forbade him from earning an education whilst the same society enforced the education of Benjamin Franklin.…

    S. Lewis believed that education has a purpose, task, target, and value. The purpose of education is to create a “good man” (Lee 95). Lewis viewed that education’s task is to “irrigate deserts” or grow one’s mind into a flourishing, fertile land (Heck 24). The “realization of human ideas” serves as the target of education (Lee 98). In Martin L. King’s speech he asks people what their opinion on education was. He explains that some people they call “Educated” may not be as educated as they thought. He explains that “Educated” people take advantage on the less educated and make them think what they want them to think. They’ll fill them up with hate and ignorance, and people would think that it’s the right way because they’re “educated”. He also said when he was “around and about” in that school he found out that college men had a misconception of the meaning of education.…

I believe the purpose of education is to give students the necessary skills to reach one’s full potential. In Achievement of Desire by Richard Rodriguez, the author tells how his involvement with education caused him to become disconnected from his family. Because there were no minority studies, the author’s education caused him to become isolated from his family while also disconnecting him from his culture; however, today the emergence of intersectional perspectives allows minorities to understand their culture and create deeper connections with their communities. Unfortunately, my family's background consists of poverty, drug and alcohol abuse, and death.…

Throughout history, education has always played an important role in people’s lives. Education, or lack thereof, in many ways, shapes a person’s life and what they will become in society. Many people have argued over time on what the best form of education is and how it should be implemented. Harry Brighouse, in his book On Education, offers an argument that the central purpose of education should be to promote the flourishing of humans. While Brighouse does present a unique idea as to what the central purpose of education should be, his argument is impractical and not without its pitfalls.…

Education today, in my opinion, is not doing what it should be doing to ensure that America is actually living up to what it is known for...the land of opportunities. I believe that education should be about an empowering experience that helps students discover their passions, fosters their critical thinking skills, promotes an environment that accepts diversity, and encourages students to apply to skills to the outside world. This should be he purpose of American public schooling because it will help society adapt to changing times and encourage the growth of a well-rounded, modern, and accepting culture which in the long run help foster peace and equality. I am sure that there are many schools in America that try and foster all of things,…
