Being an African American citizen in America, I give the upmost respect to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his efforts in the Civil Rights Movement. Because of this heroic, selfless man, I am able to apply for this scholarship or any other I qualify for, attend any school of my choosing, and live in a country where the color of your skin does not dehumanize you anymore. If I had the opportunity, I would not be able to thank Dr. King enough for leading the historic movement in which he payed the ultimate price, his life, to ensure a better future for all colored Americans. Defying the social norm, speaking on behalf of a population with no voice, Dr. King is viewed as one of the most influential individuals in history, and practiced nonviolence
