King's parents, Hans and Margarethe Luther King were part of Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church. Hans King was the pastor of the church, while Mrs. King was a big impact on the church itself. While traveling to Germany in 1834, Hans King became inspired by Martin Luther the leader of the Protestant Reformation and then decided to change his son’s name as well as his own. This 5-year old boy who was once known as Michael became known as Martin Luther King. Attending college in 1944 at Morehouse college, King was a bright 15 year old who had skipped 9th and 12th grade to go in life into life. King grew up with a lot tension in his life. He believed that we all need tension to grow, like growing pains. While spending time in the Birmingham Jail, Luther wrote a letter speaking about negotiation, and taking direct action. He also mention the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates, who speaks about how we need to tension in our minds and thoughts to get out of the “bondage of myths and half truths.” King was very big creating tension to get negotiation going in the community. Martin Luther affected our community today because he words about negotiation. As Martin Luther King Jr once said “Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue. They couldn't go to certain libraries, or certain theaters, restaurant, or even water fountains. In 1955 King led the bus boycott in 1955, which was first started by Rosa Parks. This all started by Parks refusing to give up her seat to white man on a town bus. In 1957, King also helped form Southern Christian Leadership Conference. This organization helped work for civil rights. King also proved to the world that an action without violence is the best way to get things done and is my successful. He proved through he nonviolent demonstrations. He also led a sit-in lunch that includes blacks and whites to demand for equal treatment in restaurants. It is no longer legal for the United States to discriminate by the different color of skin. Skin now, really doesn't matter. There are still many people in this world who are very cruel to each other because of their skin, but because Martin Luther King took action and led our nation to negotiation and peace we are way different now. He led all these marches and civil right movement not only for him but for everybody else in our community. These were all example hs was trying to prove were nonviolent actions which would then lead to tension and then negotiation.Many people had to live in these conditions and sometimes it even lead to their deaths.Many black people tried to keep their family separated from the real world. Many kids didn't even
