Did you know that Martin luther King Jr.’s birth name was Michael and then later was changed to Martin (Martin Luther King Jr. - Biography)? I wonder what it would be like if his name was never changed to martin? He is one of the main people that made an attempt to make a change in the civil rights movement. We would probably still be segregated today if it wasn’t for him. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most inspirational speakers of all time.
Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929 (Martin Luther King Jr. - Biography). “He has a brother Alfred Daniel Williams King and sister Christine King Farris.” Martin went to a segregated school in Georgia. became a pastor like his father (Martin Luther King Jr. - Biography). He was chosen as the official spokesman for the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955. The Montgomery bus boycott was where African Americans refused to ride busses and they walked every where they need to go (About Dr. King). On December 21, 1956 the supreme court got rid of the bus segregation laws which ended the boycott which lasted 382 days (Martin Luther King Jr. - Biography). Martin Luther King Jr. was elected president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. It was to make more leadership in the Civil Rights Movement. On August 28,1963 Martin Luther King Jr. gave the “I Have a Dream” speech that inspired many. The speech was saying that we are all equal and how he was having a dream of being free. In 1964 the Supreme Court got rid of segregation in the United States of America after many years of trying (About Dr. King). Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated on April 4,1968 (Martin Luther King Jr).
Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated at the age of 39. On November 2, 1983 Ronald Reagan the president at the time signed Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a national holiday.
