Martin Luther Impact On Society

Martin Luther was born on November 10th, 1483 in Eisleben, Germany. Hans and Margarette were his parents and they came from peasant linage. His father did have some success as a miner and ore smelter. A year later in 1484, their family moved to Mansfeld and Martin went to school there. Hans wanted a good life for his son and knew mining wasn 't going to be stable since it was such a tough business to be in. His father then became a lawyer, knowing that job would be better for the family. Throughout the early years of Martin’s life, he went to school, but was never fond of it. After going to Magdeburg for school at age 14, he considered it to be almost like a purgatory or hell. When Martin was 18 years old, he began studying at the University of Erfurt. He was on his path to becoming a lawyer by earning his Master of Arts degree. This all started when he found out that the Catholic Church was granting indulgences, which gave sinners a way to pay their way out of sin. Martin strongly disagreed with this idea that the Catholic Church was practicing. He thought that people could only truly be saved by having faith and by their honest repentance to God. On October 31, 1517, Martin wrote the “Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences,” which was also called the 95 Theses. He posted it on the Castle Church chapel door in Wittenberg. During this time it was normal practice to nail ideas on there for discussion. The act of posting the paper wasn’t what made it so revolutionary. It is the fact that the topic that he was discussing was so controversial. People didn’t know exactly how to address such a topic and Luther was the only one to step up and say something about
