The entrepreneur I have chosen is Martha Stewart. Martha Stewart founded “Martha Stewart Living Omni media (MSLO)” in 1997. This business is a diversified media and marketing company which is structured into four different business sectors; Publishing, Internet, Broadcasting, and Merchandising. The company has over 100 million consumers each month, across all media platforms.
Martha Stewart is well known for her magazine and television show, Martha Stewart Living. She also has her own cooking shows, and many other shows; Martha’s known as a Life Guru. Her maiden name was Koystyra. Martha was one of six children in her family; she was the second one born. By the time she was 13 she had worked as a model; she was in fashion shows and had been shown on television and print advertisements. Years passed on and Martha had attended Barnard College and earned her degree, in 1962, in European and architectural history. While still attending Barnard, Martha met a man named Andrew Stewart, who became her husband in 1961, when she was still a sophomore. In 2002, rumor had it that she was a part of insider trading. She was accused and was investigated for selling hundreds of shares of ImClone Systems. Due to this, Stewart pulled out from the stock exchange, just four months after she had joined. However, in 2003, she was charged for security fraud. Pleading innocent, Martha had stepped down as chair and CEO of her business. Another year later, she was dismissed from the security fraud charges, but a jury had found her guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and two counts of make false statements. She was sentenced to five months jail and was fined $30,000 that July. She was released from jail in 2005, just in time to host her new shows that NBC had announced she was hosting. One of the shows, called The Apprentice, did not succeed to attract a large audience. However, MSLO proceeded to grow in new
