CISSIE COOK, as Martha Auld Havlin/Harris was known throughout her life, was the illegitimate daughter of Martha Havlin born in Stevenston in 1924. In 1925, Cissie’s mother married John Harris in Stevenston. Though Cissie was born with the name Havlin, she used Harris as her maiden name throughout life. In 1930, Martha and son Robert Harris em-igrated to New York. Cissie remained in Scotland where she was raised by her step-grandfather, John Connell Cook[C.1.2.4.1.2.1], as his own. Her association with the Cooks led to her being known locally as Cissie Cook.
In 1943, Cissie married Edward Littlejohn Walker at Ardeer Parish Church in Stevenston. The guests were forced to wait when a stuck hair curler made Cissie late down the aisle. John
