Mars is the fourth planet from the sun in our Solar System. Mars got its name from the Roman God of War. Mars means Ares in Roman. Ares is the Roman god of war. Mars is actually much smaller than Earth. It is the 7th biggest planet in our Solar System. The mass of Mars is 6.4169 *1023. That is slightly more than 10% of the Earths mass. It’s radius is 2,106 miles (3,390 Km). The force of gravity at the surface of Mars is 3,711 meters per second. Mars is a terrestrial planet which means that the planet is made up of rock and metals. It is impossible to know when Mars was discovered. Mars is bright enough to see at night without a telescope. It has been documented for at least 4,000 years. Mars has many craters in the Southern Hemisphere. The Northern Hemisphere has a smooth surface due to volcanic activity. The internal composition of Mars is mainly iron and sulfur at the core. The core is wrapped in a mantle that is Silicates, which is cocooned by a crust that is made of basalt and just the right amount of iron oxide to give the planet its reddish hue. The atmosphere of Mars is about 100 times thinner than Earth’s. It’s 95.32% Carbon Dioxide and 2.7% Nitrogen. In the atmosphere of Mars a 100 pound person would only weigh 38 pounds. You would not be able to breath on Mars due to its thin atmosphere. On Mars you would not be able to breathe due to its thin atmosphere The temperature of Mars is kind of the same as Earth but different at the same time. The average temperature on Mars is 218 Kelvins (-55 degrees celsius, -67 degrees fahrenheit). The surface temperature ranges widely from as little as 140 Kelvins (-133 degrees celsius, -207 degrees fahrenheit) at the winter pole to almost 300 Kelvins ( 27 degrees Celsius, 80 degrees Fahrenheit) on the day side during summer.The temperature of Mars compares to Earth’s temperature.
