I. Mission and Vision Statements Mission Statement Organizing the direction of a business or corporation is essential because it can increase profitability and provide broad guidelines for how to accomplish the organization goals. This is where a mission statement becomes useful. A mission statement should be short, concise, and to the point. They hold themselves accountable with annual reports and policies which are made public. Marriot is making a measurable difference with their company-wide campaign, but it’s also great to see them institute smaller programs that they feel strongly about. For example, the culinary department introduced a sustainable seafood program entitled “Future Fish” where 780 of the hotels are expected to source at least 50% of their seafood from certified sustainable, responsible fisheries and aquaculture farms (Barbara). All in all, Marriot takes the topic of social responsibility very seriously. They are focused on the environment because it is the part of their business that they can control and effect with an immediate and visible impact. Given the nature of their business, the activities that they participate in are very relevant. III. SWOT Analysis The purpose of a SWOT analysis is to identify internal strengths and weaknesses, and external opportunities and threats with the purpose of developing a strategy for total organization success.
