Marlise Munoz’s life was cut short by what is believed to be a blood clot in her lungs. A pregnant spouse with a son already born about a year ago, she was in the kitchen but collapsed, resulting in her becoming brain-dead. As her family was preparing for the doctors to pull the plug at John Peter Smith Hospital in Texas, the family received shocking news; the hospital was unwilling to disconnect life support, as she was pregnant. Texas, along with over twenty other states in the U.S., do not allow pregnant women to be taken off of life support, regardless of their condition and/or wishes.
