The Starbucks Company was founded in 1971 in Seattle, Washington, they are a coffee company that has locations all around the globe. A big part of the companies’ policy on employee treatment is to make sure that everyone who works for Starbucks is treated well and has basic necessities. Corporations build their reputations based on the publics’ opinion of them. Should a corporation behave irresponsibly it can lead to profits declining and in some cases to total boycotts by those concerned about the unethical or irresponsible acts being committed by the company. There are several different types of responsibilities that a corporation can take part in, three of the basic ones are environmental, philanthropic and ensuring the business observes ethical labor practice. Starbucks makes it one of their key goals to ensure that they are constantly looking for new ways in which to get involved and to make a difference in their mission statements. “Helping people thrive helps ensure the long-term sustainability of the premium products we provide.” (Starbucks Sourcing). The overall thought at Starbucks is that by providing for the people who they purchase their goods from, they will ensure that both parties will be succeed and that the quality of the product will improve as a result of the improved living conditions. One of the well-known benefits that Starbucks offers to its employees is the quality insurance offered to all workers, even those who work part time.
