In order for companies to make their products relevant to a variety of consumers, companies use target marketing. Marketers identify specific segments of the population, and position their products to appeal specifically to that segment. For many companies, segmenting is central to their marketing strategy. Companies like McDonalds and Taco Bell have giant marketing budgets and marketing teams that research and sift through huge amounts of data to better understand segment insights, information about consumer behaviors and trends. Armed with this new consumer insight information, McDonalds and Taco Bell come up with mixed marketing strategies that maximize targeting marketing efforts and better position their product for maximum consumption by a market segment. This project will compare McDonalds Salads and Taco Bells Cantina Bowl. In the commercial it is hard to miss the huge varieties of vegetables and exotic ingredients like chow mien noodles, carrots, tomatoes, green peppers, chopped chicken and fresh lettuces. Using the consumer insight into Asian communities, marketers at McDonalds would know that when it comes to food in Asian culture, variety of flavors and textures is paramount. With the Oriental Chicken Salad McDonalds is suggesting to the Asian consumer we understand your culture and we’ve made a product specifically for your tastes. Not only does it satisfy your tastes, but its fast and convenient. Another aspect about the product to take away from the commercial. In the commercial it appears the woman is moving into a new home or apartment and is too busy to prepare a proper meal. Well, how convenient, McDonalds has a delicious Oriental Chicken Salad that suits your Asian sensibilities and it’s conveniently prepared for your busy
