“He came down to the farm, and asked me for a date!” said Sydney, and that’s how Mark Wikner began his relationship with Sydney Dirksen. “I wasn’t nervous, but the iffy part was I was wondering if she was still with her old boyfriend.” Turns out, she wasn’t and she accepted gallantly. Mark took her to the movie Mr Hobbs Takes a Vacation in his brand new, red Volkswagen Bug, he didn’t even buy her popcorn and a soda, but anyways, this is how the story of their wonderful 52 year relationship begins.
“We went to highschool together, as juniors and seniors. We sat at the same study hall table, and we also were in a school play together!” That was how Mark met Sydney. They went the to school together, they hung out in study hall, and played games behind the curtain during the school play. They first met at the beginning of the Junior year, when they were 16 years

Why? They were both Christians and followers of God. “We give credit to God rather than ourselves in this relationship. When you marry someone, make sure you marry the right person. You have to be committed to them, through good and bad times, divorce is not an option.” Mark and Sydney both found the right person to marry while they were dating, and God showed them that. “You have to choose your mate carefully, marriage was God’s idea, and he considers it to be very important. You discover the person when you are dating, whether they are a smoker, they do drugs, abusive, or a gambler. Sydney and I had very similar backgrounds.” Communication is also an extremely important factor in a long lasting relationship.
In conclusion, when you decide to start a relationship with someone, make sure you choose your mate wisely. You discover the person while dating. If you do decide to get married, make sure you are ready. You must be committed to them during all times, know that God wants you to be with that person for as long as you live, divorce is not an
