“The Martian” written by Andy Weir is a science fiction novel about six trained astronauts having to leave from the planet Mars in a hurry. The crew ends up leaving behind Mark Watney, a fellow crew member. Mark was presumed dead after a wild storm, but he actually survived. With only a small amount of supplies to last him a few months, Mark must utilize his resources very carefully and keep a positive outlook on surviving on this lonely hostile planet. In the meantime, back on Earth the members of NASA and a team of international scientists from china work tirelessly to bring him home safe and alive. Even though his crew are still on the mission back from mars they are creating their own dangerous plan. Mark knows he is all alone on this vast planet, and yet he still desires, and has the will to do whatever it takes to survive and return home. …show more content…
He has very little supplies that will only last him a short time, but has many months to come up with a plan to figure out a way to survive, and that is exactly what he does. He knows that he will be spending about three years on Mars before another crew can come to rescue him. Mark has an idea about how to grow more potatoes from the few potatoes he has in his supplies.
