This novel is about an astronaut named Mark Watney who is left for “dead” on the planet mars. The plot is fueled by Mark’s adventures, farming, and experiments while on the planet to insure that he lives long enough for the rescue crew to go back and get him. This novel contains no pictures, graphs, or diagrams. There are three hundred and sixty-nine pages in this novel. Most of the novel is composed of journal entries from Mark Watney about his day to day changes dealing with how to live on the planet Mars. Since this is from the perspective of the main character, the vocabulary of the entries relates to his background in chemistry and biology.
