Tom is the protagonist of the novel. He was sneaky and conniving and did what he wanted, when and how he wanted. He was a liar. He murdered a man and blamed it on someone else because he was confident that he would get away with it because he knew no one saw it. (Or so he thought.) The inference from Injun Joe was that he was a sneaky man.
I think that I could relate to Becky. Although I am young and have never been “engaged”, I do not want a guy that has been kissing on multiple girls. I’m sure if I found out, I would do the same thing that Becky did.
The story has multiple plots. The central conflict is what should he do about witnessing the murder of Dr. Robinson. It lead to an internal conflict because Tom knew that he should tell, but him and Huck were too scared to do so from fear of being murdered themselves. The three events that shaped the story was the murder of Dr. Robinson, Tom and Huck returning and Tom testifying against Injun Joe, and Injun Joe being trapped inside of McDougal’s cave and starving to death which allows Tom and his best friend Huck to find Injun Joe’s gold treasure and keep it for themselves.
After Tom escaped the cave and went and told and they sealed the cave up and he never mentioned anything about Injun Joe being on the inside, I predicted that Injun Joe would die and that he would get the gold that he knew Injun Joe
