According to Euripides, a tragedian of classical Athens, “Friends show their love in times of trouble, not in happiness.” Through life, many people face many hardships with their friends with them. One of the themes that Mark Twain explores in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is that friends will always be there for you and care for you no matter what you are going through. Three examples that support this theme are when Huck and Tom witnesses the murder, Becky and Tom being lost in the cave, and Tom encourages Huck to stay with Widow Douglas.
To begin, Becky and Tom takes care of one another while they were lost in the cave. Going on their adventure in an unknown cave, Tom and Becky loses their path back to the exit. At their last hope, Tom goes

As Euripides once said, “Friends show their love in times of trouble, not in happiness” (“Friendship”). Friends are loyal and sacrifice benefits for themselves in sake of their friend. Friends are people you can count on and trust that they always have your back, friends are the ones the will tell you how it is and help you improve, and friends will make you want to be a better person. These traits are seen in both novels, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and Of Mice and Men, between the two pairs of main characters - Huck and Jim, and George and Lennie. Huck goes to Jackson's Island and tells Jim that they are coming for them.…

Emotions tend to make things tricky in every situation; when added to a dangerous situation, it can play on one’s conscience and make the choice even more difficult. In the instance of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, readers can witness this internal struggle between fear and their conscience. In addition, readers follow the boy’s decisions on the innocent’s worth to their own selves. Tom remembers the times that Muff Potter has helped him, and Huckleberry Finn recalls when the widow Douglas was kind to him when others were not. Without these crucial realizations from the boys, they may not have put their lives in danger, risking the wrath of Injun Joe, in order to help these two innocent victims.…

In Mark Twain’s, “Life on the Mississippi,” Mark talks about how much he would like to be a captain for a cruise ship because of the benefits from doing it and how rewarding it is to actually become a captain. But in Fredrick Douglass’s, “Narrative of the life of Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave,” he talks about how he seldom got payed and the food was boiled corn meal which barely was enough for all the works since they had to share. There are many differences and similarities in these paragraphs. “Life on the Mississippi,” is mainly about the more wealthy people and how they lived. All of the kids wanted to become a captain, Mark Twain said, “The pilot, even in those days of trivial wages, had a princely salary — from a hundred and fifty…

I consider The adventures of Huckleberry Finn as a literary piece ahead of its time. Mark Twain pushed the boundaries of American literature with this novel. Earnest Hemingway once wrote “American Literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn”. The story line covers topics that were generally not discussed in literature during this time period, topics such as slavery, conforming to society and freedom. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn can be described as a reflection of modernity as well as American identity.…

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a touching story; my favorite character is Huck Finn. Huck a true hero. Even though Huck learned from Miss Watson that hell is a real and your actions do have consequences, he still broke the rules to help Jim. Huck didn’t turn Jim in even for the $300 reward. This is what makes me admire Huck Finn.…

In Mark Twain’s classic novel, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom’s life and various escapades are described in great length and depth. Tom Sawyer, is a very shrewd, manipulative boy with a penchant for finding a way to get out of work. He demonstrates this in the pranks he plays on others. The novel jumps back and forth among several narrative strands showing Tom’s growth as a character. Because of the episodic nature of the plot, Tom’s character can seem inconsistent, as it varies depending upon his situation.…

In his book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain tackles the issues of Slavery in the United States (specifically the South). Twain does so by telling the story of a thirteen year old white boy named Huck Finn and his adventures with Jim, a black slave. It is important to note that Mark Twain wrote this book two decades after the Emancipation Proclamation, and while this abolished Slavery, racism was still a real problem of the South. Moreover, Twain establishes the significance of friendship in the novel. Through events such as Huck’s ‘band of robbers’ known as ‘Tom Sawyer’s Gang’ to his growing compassion towards Jim, it is clear that Huck treats friendship as a very serious matter his life.…
