We frequently have an opinion regarding everything around us. Landscapes, paintings, books, clothing etc. What do they look like? How do they make us feel? However, there is one other thing we often have a strong opinion of. People. We consistently make observations based on who people are, what they do, and how they make us feel. Everyone has made these observations, even individuals in the past. Mark Twain was thought of in many different ways. Opinions floated, and still float, in the air about who Mark Twain was. But which one correctly defines him? Who was Mark Twain?

While writing one of his first stories, Mark unintentionally stole bits and pieces of a dedication written by Oliver Wendell Holmes. A friend of his kindly pointed out

Mark accepted his offer, and set up a publishing date. Weeks after the set date, his book was nowhere to be seen. Mark started to grow impatient and angry. He made arrangement to meet with his publisher, wanting to know why his book had not been released. His publisher nervously shared the fears the company had. They were afraid Mark’s book would injure their reputation. Mark did not care about their fears, and warned them to have his book published soon or there would be consequences. The complication arose once again, irritating Mark. He sent a telegram to his publisher, telling him he had twenty-four hours to publish his book. The book was published within twenty-four hours. This shows how intimidating Mark could be. As written earlier, Mark had a kind heart. But when needed, he could be stern with people. He was not afraid to fix the situation at hand.

Knowing bits and pieces of Mark Twain's life, you can piece together the different opinions people had of him. He was able to create strong relationships based on his kind and forgiving heart. But when difficult situations arose, he was able to handle them as needed. Mark could be described in many different ways, based on how his words and actions affected people. Who is Mark Twain to
