The Life of Mark Twain Samuel L.Clemens or more known as his pen name, Mark Twain, was born on November 20, 1835 in Florida, Missouri. He was an american humorist, journalist, and novelist who authored several novels including 2 American classics: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. He was one of the most incredible and influential writers in American literature and his influence is still very transparent today. He was also a riverboat pilot, journalist, lecturer, entrepreneur, and inventor. Mark Twain explored the American soul with wit and a sharp eye for the truth. He became one of America's best and most beloved writers. Samuel Langhorne Clemens was the sixth child of John Marshall and Jane Lampton Clemens.

In 1851 he got a job as an editor for the Hannibal Western Union, a little newspaper owned by his brother. Then in 1857 he fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams, to become a steamboat pilot. He loved his job it was exciting, high paying, and he had high status. But his career was short lived do to the Civil War in 1861. Clemens joined the confederacy in June 1861, but only served a couple of weeks before his volunteer unit disbanded. After then he wandered, where would he find his future? What could satisfy him with a good pay and excitement? He found his answer in the great american west. In july 1861 twain headed west, at first he strived for gold and silver but by 1862 he was flat out broke. So that september he went to work as a reporter for the Virginia City Territorial. It was here where he adopted his pen name, Mark Twain. He got his big break in 1865 when one of his tales about mining life was printed in newspapers and magazines around the country. His next step to success came in 1867 when he took a five month cruise in the mediterranean, writing about the views for american newspapers.
