Mark Straus ACE Interview Essay

There were two convicting arguments that Mark Straus states in his ACE Interview- “Reliability of The New Testament.” The first was of the New Testament and the second one was of Science and Art of the Texture Criticism. Inspiration and inerrancy apply to the original manuscripts. Our modern-day translations are the Word of God only the extent that they accurately reflect the original texts, which are produced under the inspiration of God (Praxis, pg. 37-38). First, it should be understood that the personality of the human author was incorporated into the pages of scripture. God did not simply dictate the word of Scripture to the human authors, but rather, He used the giftedness and abilities of the writers of the Scripture (Etzel & Gutierrez, …show more content…
We have more than five thousand manuscripts handwritten copies of the New Testament. Many very early and some of them in a few decades of when they were written which is by far early than any ancient works of literature. A few of the New Testament books were written on parchment and rolled into scrolls. However, the church soon began using paper made from papyrus reeds grown in swampy areas (Towns, pg. 20). The amount of evidence that we have to compare to other ancient works is one of the things that is called data it's hard evidence I don’t think no one ever disagree with that. There's no other source literature in that period that was tested as the new testament. With certain rules that we can gauge the way, the copyist attended to make mistakes as they pass down these documents. There is a broad consensus among Biblical Scholars whether they are considerative or whether they are liberals we have something very close to the originals authors wrote sometimes it's stated to be things like 95 percent or so of what the authors wrote. I think we can have confidence that we have something very close to the original copies. The Bible is much more than an accurate textbook that tells about God’s people in the Old and New Testaments. Because it is accurate, we can rely on its message; but there’s another supernatural

The bible is from the original source and the word testament means testimony. Testimony means ‘proof or evidence that something exists or is true’ (merriam webster dictionary). The first stage of the four Gospels was based on the teachings and parables of Jesus during his lifetime when he travelled and preached about the ‘Reign of God’. During 30-33 AD, the idea of the Reign of God was at the centre of his instruction and way of life.…

The logical idea is mentioned that the Bible could have been edited throughout time, but that Christians believe that God would not have let that happen. The statement is made that “God left his children two things to help them on earth: the Holy Spirit and his word” (Graybeal, 1). In this essay, thoughtful questions are proposed and, in comment to the above statement, Graybeal asks “So why would God allow for his word on Earth to guide his people in the wrong direction?” (1). Further into the essay, the author discusses how the Bible is not cut and dry—there are…

Now more than ever, the world is more closely connected through the nearly-instantaneous exchange of ideas and information. This exchange of ideas means that collaboration for the advancement of knowledge on a particular subject is possible and facilitates advancements in that field. On the other hand, having access to the abundance of contrasting ideas also means that people have more to think about and more they can argue about. One of said arguments is whether the Bible is really trustworthy. There are too many different beliefs about the Bible to list them all, but some of the main ones are that the Bible is the word of God and true and trustworthy, the Bible is just a book written by man and, therefore, vulnerable to the weaknesses of any human-written work and fallible, or that the Bible is mostly true but has some inaccuracies, thus casting doubt as to whether it is inspired by God.…

The Biblical scripture continuously faces different individuals who either maintain it in its entirety or try to reinterpret it. Scripture is not something that is easy to interpret nor believe in without a doubt. Much of the reason for this is “The Reformers wanted to bring change within the whole community of believers, not just individuals.” PGCH PG 122 They strived for a new beginning where the old viewpoints were considered but not the ultimate truth.…

The word reliable means to be trustworthy and as a Christian I believe that the Old Testament is very reliable. The books within the Old Testament are like a narrative, they are stories that explain how the world was created and preparing us for the coming of Jesus. It is important to know where you came from to know where you are going. After reading the assigned material this week, my belief in the Bible is only reinforced and made stronger. Norman Geisler describes in his book how Jesus validates the Old Testament in the New Testament.…

Even though the original documents are gone, I know God has preserved the Word (matthew 24:35). We can know the true Word even today. I can trust it, because God has told Christians that we must treat the Word with utmost care. Those few corrupt copies are due to laziness or a lack of respect for the Word. However, these errors are easy to spot and…

The author of the article, Reasons to Question the Reliability of Scripture, wrote on the basis of trying to disprove or question the reliability of the New Testament by providing multiple arguments against the idea that the oral history of Luke and the other NT authors could be accurate. While I have an answer for all, I’m going to focus on a few that I believe are the most important to help clear up a basis for historical evidence before ever going into faith or Christianity as a theology. The two main arguments I’m going to respond to are the authors beliefs about the failings of human memory, capability and perception of oral tradition, as well as to try to help the author to distinguish between minor and major details relevance levels…

God 's word. I enjoyed the information in this book. There were a lot of interesting facts in this book about the creation of the Bible and how we got the Bible. I would recommend this book to anyone that has questions about the Bible that are not being answered in their church or Bible study. Before the printing press came to be, almost all of the information that was out in the open got distorted and mixed up. A good example of this is the game Telephone, as you pass the message along the message gets mixed up and changed, so before writing all of the stories and information wasn’t exactly correct. Before the printing press monks had to copy all the books, it took monks an average of 20 years to copy a bible. Having only monks copy books made them very expensive and only available to the rich and royalty.…

However, we also affirm the inspiration and authority of both the Old Testament and the New Testament. If the church ignores the Old Testament, then they miss the beauty of the beginning of the story of God’s interaction with the world. First, the Old Testament is food for the Christian’s soul. In 2nd Timothy 3:16 Paul says, “All scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”…

Throughout the entire course of history, the Bible and its contents have been contested. In the past people believed in different gods, and today many people believe that there is no God. Once someone has denied what the Bible says, they are forced to believe in something else. Many scholars have attacked the Bible itself and claimed that it is false. One way that they do that is by denying that Moses wrote the Pentateuch and that the stories found within are fiction.…

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is considered by most Christians to be the central tenet of the Christian doctrine. The events that occurred after his crucifixion and subsequent interment in the tomb have raised numerous questions and have been the subject of debate among believers and non-believers for centuries. The Gospels of the New Testament, written in first and second centuries, are the primary source for understanding the events surrounding the resurrection of Christ. It is the limited availability of other resources that has resulted in the scrutiny of the Gospels in search of documentation that will definitively settle the debate of whether the resurrection actually occurred as revealed in these ancient texts. It is the purpose…

The Bible is one of the oldest pieces of literature that exists. It has been written and rewritten in many different languages, with each translation having its own mistakes and contradictions.
