15 years passed since Lexie had last been to Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, and she had quite a few secrets under her belt and skeletons in her closet. She didn’t want to leave all those years ago but she felt she had to. Something told her to get away and start her own life away from everyone and everything. Following her gut, she got away and tried to forget everything and start anew in Boston. As if instantly, her whole life was different. It worked for a while, until months later, when she had a baby. It wasn’t just a baby, that baby was Mark Sloan’s baby. Lexie always wanted to go back to Seattle; she missed everyone there. Her life was there and then one day she just up and left it. “Are you serious!?”
“As serious as a heart attack. The flight is at six tonight. I’ve got to work tomorrow so you might have to go with me to the hospital but there are a few people I want you to meet anyway.”
“Okay! Yeah! How long are we staying? Are we going to the space needle? I’ll get to meet Zola in person! Does she know?” Brooklyn rambled, her voiced increased with speed as she asked questions. That trait was something she picked up from her mother. When she was excited or nervous she could talk about nothing until the feeling passed. Lexie hadn’t seen her this excited for anything in years.
“We’ll be there for two weeks. I think we’ll be able to fit in the space needle and Derek will definitely take you on a ferry ride. Why did you leave?”
“I wanted to go somewhere different. I wanted a change.”
“So, you left everyone you loved and didn’t look back?”
“I guess I did.” Lexie shrugged. “Listen, all of this is a little over your head right now. Maybe I’ll tell you one day but I don’t think you need to know.” The whole reason was Mark but she couldn’t know that. Lexie had worked hard to keep him a secret all these years and now they were most likely going to meet again. 15 years later, Lexie with a 15 year old daughter. She hoped he wouldn’t do the math. After a short while, Brooklyn gave up and they finished their meal before going home to start the process of packing.
When the two arrived in Seattle, Brooklyn stood at baggage claim with shaking hands and a tapping for watching for the two bgs to come around the corner on the conveyer belt. The second Brooklyn saw her bags her hands were on them and she was headed for the door, hurrying her mom along with her. When she spotted Zola, she dashed straight for her. “Zola!” The girl shouted, and her face lit up as she ran toward Brooklyn.
“Brooklyn!? Oh my gosh, you’re real!” Zola said as they hugged. “Why didn’t you tell me she was coming?” She turned to Meredith who was walking to hug
